British Values
What are the British Values?
According to Ofsted the fundamental British Values are:
-
Democracy
-
The Rule of Law
-
Individual Liberty
-
Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith
Our academy reflects the British Values in all that we do; we take our responsibility very seriously to prepare children for life in modern Britain. We aim to nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to British society and to the world.
We encourage our children to be creative, unique, open-minded and independent individuals that are respectful of themselves and of others in our academy, the local community and the wider world.
Here are some quotes from children on how we link the British Values to our everyday learning at Queensmead Primary Academy:
‘We vote for who represents us on the School Council’ – Year 4 child.
‘We understand the consequences of breaking the law and rules’ – Year 6 child.
‘We have the freedom to make choices about joining extra-curricular clubs’ – Year 6 child.
‘We help develop fair rules for our class and school’ – Year 2 child.
‘We have the freedom to choose who we play with’ – Year 5 child.
‘We enjoy learning about different faith and cultures from around the world’ – Year 5 child.
There are many opportunities we offer children to experience British Values.
We are very proud to have achieved our Silver Rights Respecting School Award through closely working with UNICEF. We hold our own General Election each year for an Academy Prime Minister as well as having an active and democratic School Council.
